Quad-biking 2nd Jan 06

Having spent New Year’s day doing absolutely NOTHING, (except for Denise who took a spin to Farewell spit while Gen and I minded the hotel room), we decided to go for a little bit of action before heading down the West Coast to Greymouth on the 2nd of Jan. Myles and Eithne had given quad biking a go the day before so it came highly recommended. And they were right... it was tremendous fun. The whole thing took about two hours, first there was a trip around the farm and up into the hills, where there were some spectacular views.
Following our quad-biking adventures, we hit the road to the West Coast where we planned to stay in Greymouth for a night on our way to see some glaciers. Along the way, we stopped at the Buller river (not far from the scene of my ass-breaking back in September, actually) where there is the longest swing bridge in New Zealand. Great fun to be had, jumping up and down on one end when someone is in the middle of it.... As you can see, we were all holding on fairly tightly! (My knuckles were white, I'm not kidding!)

New Year's Eve in Nelson

The five of us spent New Year’s eve in Nelson and, naturally, we ended up in an Irish pub. Interestingly, as the night went on, the drinks seemed to get smaller and smaller, and more and more expensive. Shocking the way publicans take advantage of drunk people! We also made the fascinating discovery that if you’ve just spend three days on a boat, and you stand up and close your eyes – everything starts to sway and you kind of stand sideways…. Hours of entertainment!
